Today's poem is by Megan Snyder-Camp

The Gunny Wolf

You've got failure all wrong,
the Gunnywolf tells me. We've just been through
the salad bar together. Failure.
It's wanting one thing, he says,
and not getting it. Light
is streaming in. Croutons. Boats
through the window. He's the first
person I've spoken to in days.
Is your son in soccer yet, he asks—
it nukes all the difference. My son
alights from one of the golden boats.
You missed everything, he says,
even what was underneath the water
and never came up.
