Today's poem is by Michael Chitwood

Pier

Short road.
Lifted.
A scaffold

the sea
slides under.
Its braces'

Xs
mark the spot
of no treasure

other than
the shush-hush
of surf.

It has an end.
You can go there
and know

when you have
arrived
and see

how much
farther
there is to go.
