Aubade

I follow a stray dog
so he'll stop following me

and a violin starts forming
in the pockets of my coat.

I have no ear for tuning,
but it is six A.M. and I will

soon be the owner
of a complete instrument.

Now it's almost seven o'clock,
and an awkward torso of wood

is digging at my side—
