Today's poem is by Jean R. Sampson

Vincent

When you made love to the sun,
you were not burned
but began to see fire everywhere.
Cypress trees leapt up before you,
flames licking the sky.
Stars melted holes in night's skin
with their kisses.
You saw fields scarred red
where passion signed them.

Before black wings blocked the light
you gave yourself to the fire within you,
not knowing the moon
longed to heal you
with her cool, almost human touch.
