Today's poem is by Katherine Soniat

Somnambulist

It was the animals in dream she tried to save,
cripples wandering the late October fields.
And she had to follow harm into the trees

then back to waking life
where she found her hand pressed to the heart
of her lover.

One dawn, tired with sleep,
she walked miles into the country
into a yard where two stags stood

beside a sagging card table.
Like the fabled beasts, antlered heads bowed,
this cast of dream brethren calmly lapped the dew,

the breeze not full of her today.
