Landeg White was born in south Wales and has taught in Trinidad, Malawi, Sierra Leone, Zambia, and England. Among his various books are studies of V. S. Naipaul, of Mozambican and Malawian history, and of southern African praise poetry, together with five collections of poems. His translations of Camoes' The Lusiads won the Texeira Gomes prize for 1998. He is married with two sons, and lives in Carapinheira, Portugal where he teaches at the Universidade Aberta (Open University).
