Today's poem is by jo reyes-boitel

remembrance day

Today is my father's birthday.
He sits at the kitchen table and waits
for my mother to make his birthday eggs
—sunny side up, green chile, and instant coffee.

      He waits
for my phone call and some happy memory,
for my brother to visit with a smile and a six pack,
for the last of winter to usher itself into the kitchen.
