Today's poem is by John A. Nieves

Spangle

I keep making appointments not to
die in a flood. The advice keeps
getting better. Don't live near water.

Don't live in a valley. Don't live
where there is poor drainage
or hurricanes. Tape yourself

to the roof of your house. Tape your
roof to the stars. The web of tape
in the sky lets me know others

are trying this too. And in this, I am
less alone. Maybe next I'll make
appointments to be less alone, but

they will be hard to keep taped
to a roof taped to the stars
with so much hope in the sky.
