L. A. Johnson is from California. She is the author of the chapbook Little Climates (Bull City Press, 2017). She holds an MFA from Columbia University and is currently pursuing her PhD in creative writing at the University of Southern California, where she is a Middleton Fellow. The winner of the 2022 Mississippi Review Poetry Prize, the 2022 Greensboro Review Poetry Prize, and the 2021 Rumi Prize in Poetry from Arts & Letters and, her poems have recently appeared in The American Poetry Review, Poetry Magazine, ZYZZYVA, and elsewhere.
