John Surowiecki's fourteenth book of poetry, The Place of the Solitaires: Poems from Titles by Wallace Stevens (Wolfson Press) which "An Old Man Asleep" is from. John's other books of poetry include Burger King of the Dead, Missing Persons, Flies, and The Hat City after Men Stopped Wearing Hats. He is the recipient of the Poetry Foundation Pegasus Award for verse drama, the Pablo Neruda Prize, the Washington Prize, a Connecticut Poetry Fellowship, the silver medal in the Sunken Garden National Competition, the White Pine Press Poetry Prize and other literary awards. As a student at the University of Connecticut, John won the Annual Wallace Stevens Prize on two occasions. His novel, Pie Man, won the 2017 Nilson Prize for a First Novel. For a number of years he taught a poetry writing course at Manchester Community College and still give lectures there on literary subjects
