Celia A Sorhaindowas born in Dominica and left with her family for England in 1976. She returned to Dominica in 2005 where she now lives. Guabancex is her first poetry collection and was longlisted for the BOCAS Lit Fest award in 2021. Since publication of Guabancex, she has appeared at the Brooklyn Caribbean Literary Festival, BOCAS and the Miami Book Fair. Her poems have also been published in Anomaly, The Caribbean Writer, Moko on-line magazine, Interviewing The Caribbean Journal, Susumba's Book Bag, The New Daughters of Africa anthology and longlisted for the UK National Poetry Competition 2017/18. She is also co-compiler of Home Again — Stories of Migration & Return, published by Papillote Press 2009. Celia is a 2016 Cropper Foundation Creative Writers Workshop fellow, a Callaloo Creative Writing Workshop 2017 fellow, and one of two Dominicans selected to take part in UWI St Augustine Campus Literacy Week 2018 in Trinidad. She is also a keen hiker, a newbie 'backyard' gardener and a passionate reader.
