Today's poem is by Jessica L. Walsh

Thirty Days Past Due

After a reasonable month
a full billing cycle after all
and the lawn gone to wild yet again

the curious men will come—
a deputy, the landlord,
his handkerchief ready
in case the scene is grim

but they'll find nobody dead or sick
No body.

A house unpeopled.
The best outcome.

In my room
I left my clothes on the bed
cut in half
from top to bottom
arranged in two symmetrical piles.

Useful wives will sew
halves back to whole

and chafing at the stitches
they'll stay apart from others
unsure at what distance
the seams can be seen.
