Today's poem is by Tom Holmes

The Cartographer's Credo

You can always go more
and more west. The sun
never stops, even when
it's under the earth.

Or if you're a channeler
of night skies, black holes
will appear like purple gyre
spumes. You just have to focus,

or reimagine the limits
of light speed, how you walk
through time, or how you'll sail
your ship across the ripples of space.

Like a man thrown overboard
whose dying body pulls
his shadow down with him,
you must commit.
