Today's poem is by Miriam Levine

Long Night

The wildest dreams dissolve in the dark.
The closest kiss is distant in the dark.

The same sharp notes disperse: right next-door
drunk voices, discordant in the dark.

The clock clicks dismally through hours.
Relentless time distracts. In the dark

a lock of hair disbands on the pillow,
old tattoos disfigure. In the dark

thoughts surface like disaster just offshore.
Fresh dew distilled in the dark:

the bright dancer twirls, disarming dread,
the soul's breath displayed in the dark.

"Banish each crude disgrace of my life,"
Mim prays, disbelieving, in the dark.
