Today's poem is by Edwin Romond

Dravecky Dreams
Dave Dravecky was a San Francisco Giants All-Star pitcher who lost his arm to cancer.

The circle of his arms
broken around his wife,
he has never slept closer
to the mattress, never
sunk deeper into night
as he dreams
his arm's somewhere
waiting like the good news
of a home run hit
after time had been called;
the relief of the umpire
waving the number
off the scoreboard,
the two-handed cheering
from the dugout, the grin
on his catcher signing
a different pitch
and he nodding, winding up,
and feeling what it feels
like to turn back time
and pitch again.
