Today's poem is by Lisa Julie

Brother

He covers the moon with his left thumb
I don't have enough fingers for all the stars.

He holds my abalone ashtray against his ear
I can hear the waves.

He pulls his shoes out from underneath the bed
I don't think they can breathe.

He leaves his toy soldier in front of the door
It will keep us safe.
