Today's poem is by Francis Combes translated by Alan Dent

The Empire Attacks

Futile to rub your eyes
in front of the television
the bad dream doesn't disappear.
Like science-fiction films made in the USA
the Empire attacks
and its cruise missiles don't land
in another dimension
but in our world
where they kill men, women and children ...
And yet
all that would be needed perhaps
would be for all the people of the Earth
to rub their eyelids and open their eyes
so that — like a wave on the beach —
passing their hand over the world's face
they wipe out Empire
like a sand castle.
