Today's poem is by Jane Commane

Reasoning

It wasn't as imagined. Not hand drawn,
or a home movie in stuttering 8mm,

But suddenly diffusing, a salt-solution in
an acid bath brimming with gold.

Nor was it meant to unfold like this,
to come unpinned and unmounted

as the movement of two shadows as they bind
and separate through different species of dark.

The speck of a star in your eyes, the grit
working loose from the oyster.
