Today's poem is by Brian Kirk

Persephone

She walked into the Sheaf of Wheat
one night and disappeared.

The barman found her grainy image
on CCTV for the police,

but she was gone without a trace.
Two weeks later the place burned down,

guard dogs silenced with a cut of meat
spiked by a shadowed figure in a cap.

Some say there was a smell of sulphur,
others got a whiff of shite.
