Today's poem is by Paul Genega

Morpheus

Beyond these walls
someone is stalking you
fixed grin
sharper than a cutlass
bright
as pirate gold.

Here where you are
breathing
every moving shadow
is silent — out there

where he is
your scent is
so strong he is
already salivating.

Specific as an instinct
older than tomorrow
he makes his way
without cruelty or caring

empowered
by the darkness
certain of his welcome
slipping at last into
the alleyways of sleep.
