Today's poem is by Austin Smith

Lament of the Man Who Picks Up Dead Animals

Give me the soil twelve dead horses
Displace and nothing else and I swear
I could live a good life and not worry
That my kids will be embarrassed to say
What it is their father does when asked

But give me those same twelve horses
Alive and breathing in their stalls
Waiting to be brushed and I will fail
Them miserably I will fail them
And they'll be forced to lie
