Today's poem is by George David Clark

Silent Anniversary

my wife's dream-breathing in the dark
unrolls its invisible party horn

so quietly we must be celebrating
one of the secret anniversaries

of silence in this noisy house
no singing of course no presents

no cake for fear the clatter of utensils
would insult the guest of honor

who lies eyes open between us
as hushed as a stillborn child

in this blizzard of black confetti
