The One True Thing

Today a turtle
Passed over the lawn
And I looked at it

For a few minutes.
It wasn't slow,
Like the legend says.

It was quick
And sure of itself
And it made its way

To the adjacent lawn,
Wilma's lawn,
Where it finally sat,

As if it needed rest.
Turtle,
You are a star,

And you have no ego
That gets in the way,
You just go doggedly

About your purpose
And carry your burden,
Your beautiful,

Scintillating
Green and yellow shell,
The one true thing.
