Today's poem is by Shanna Compton

Hospital for the Ear & Neck

Setting and receiving tones
we tune our beating machines,

which cluster flocklike
to crow alone.

Fiddling knobs together,
distilling notes and patterning after.

An event in the grass startles
rippling groups into the air.

We are moved to declare
we are unmanipulated.

Each of our preset metaphors returns
nightly to settle our uppermost.
