Today's poem is by James Haug

Geologic Time

And sometimes I'm just going
Along the snow's melting where
Last I shoveled it Allison
Gives me the old thumbs up
But I somehow think she's really
Pointing at something weighing
In overhead I look up at

Nothing nothing's there I mean
A low ceiling and the invisible
Workings of major wind currents
That's all enough I say
For me now to gather and put
My shoulder into the place where
It is my shoulder should go

I'm pushing a big transparent
Stone up a steep unseen slope
Of which no one says nothing not
Even me I'm just going a-
Long hoping my neighbors regard
My gestures of good will I
Hate it too if a story intrudes
