Kevin Powers
was born and raised in Richmond, VA. He joined the army at 17, later serving a year in Mosul and Tal Afar, Iraq. He is currently a Michener Fellow in Poetry at the University of Texas at Austin. His poetry and fiction have appeared in Poetry, the NewYork Quarterly, The Sun, and elsewhere, and his debut novel, The Yellow Birds, will be published by Little, Brown and Company in September 2012.
