About Culture of One:

"No matter what genre label you slap on her books, Notley's work is full of surprises. This is one of the reasons that, since her career began in the '70s, she has steadily risen to become one of the most influential and highly regarded figures of the American avant-garde—and, more recently, of poetry in general."
—Craig Morgan Teicher

"Alice Notley has freed herself from any single notion of what poetry should be so that she can go ahead and write what poetry can be. That she has done so in each of over twenty books published since 1975 attests to the potency of both her poetic gifts and her ambitions for poetry itself."
—Brian Teare
