Dennis O'Driscoll was born in Thurles, County Tipperary, Ireland, in 1954. He has published eight books of poetry, a collection of essays, and the anthology Quote Poet Unquote: Contemporary Quotations on Poets and Poetry (Copper Canyon, 2008); his first book of poetry to appear in the United States is Reality Check (Copper Canyon, 2008). O’Driscoll has received many honors for his work, including a Lannan Literary Award, the E.M. Forster Award, and the O’Shaughnessy Award for Poetry. A member of Aosdána, the Irish academy of artists, Dennis O’Driscoll has worked as a civil servant since the age of sixteen.
