Catherine Carter's first book of poems, The Memory of Gills, was published by LSU Press in 2006, and her work has appeared in Poetry, North Carolina Literary Review, Cider Press Review, and other journals. A native of the tidewater region of Maryland, she now lives in Cullowhee, N.C., where she is the Director of English Education at Western Carolina University.
