Little Gossip

Truth and fancy
make your upper lip curl
like the brim of a hat

facing the East wind
as other rumors arrive
with the playful ease

of a harlequin's somersault.
Now wind and sky breed
a pair of Siamese twins,

but you only appear
complacent. You predicted
their birth all along

as if you were an oracle
of great renown instead
of a fidgeting gossip

caught in the game
of second-guessing where to
send each caustic word.
