Today's poem is by Elizabeth Caffrey

The Kitchen Looks Out The Window

The kitchen looks out the window
at the spirits of trees that have gone away
for the winter and the evergreens
that have stayed.
I hear through my skin
a neighbor barking at his dog
the woodpecker slamming his door
and a former maple tree scratching to get in.
A lone turkey hunts acorns
and a happiness of deer
cavorts in the snow
because it is not yet deep.
