Michael Gessner has authored six poetry collections. His poems have been featured in American Literary Review, The French Literary Review, The journal of the American Medical Association, North American Review, Oxford Magazine, Rue des Beaux-Arts (Paris), The Yale journal of Humanities in Medicine, and others. His poems have been finalists and semi-finalists in competitions including "Discovery"/The Nation, the Pablo Neruda Award, and the James Hearst Poetry Prize. He has given readings at the American-Irish Historical Society (NYC), University College Dublin, and Cambridge University, among others. He lives in Tucson, Arizona, with his wife and their dog, "Irish."
